How Much Money do I Need to Make Online?

After making virtually no money online for the past few months, it's time to set myself a realistic target.

Recently I've been receiving an average of 450 visitors per day, earning approx $0.50 per 1000. At the current exchange rate, I need to earn $1300 per month to cover living expenses.

To make enough money to break even, I need around 2.6 million visitors per month, or 86000 per day.  That's roughly a 99.5% increase in traffic and if I haven't achieved it by February, I'm going to run out of cash!

To reach this goal, I need to do the following:
  • better monetize existing content
  • build new content that will monetize well
  • increase traffic by building backlinks
  • increase traffic by social networking
Any suggestions how to achieve the above would be greatly appreaciated. Otherwise, it's going to take a lot of good old fashioned hard work!  If you have any ideas, please leave a comment.

  1. 2.6 million visitors per month?! Good luck with that ;) Rather than relying solely on cpm ads, you need to consider more earning methods. (You probably already know that, especially since this is an older blog post) Right now I'm looking into using affiliate programs to earn more. CPC and CPA (cost per action) advertising is less reliable since it doesn't /directly/ depend on your traffic, but affiliate programs can pay out quite well per lead or sale. I'm already part of the Amazon affiliates program and I'm looking for some other affiliate programs that are a good match for me. I think there must be a number of programs that would fit with your photography blog - a photo printing service, or selling cameras? Or perhaps UK travel.
