Entrecard is a controversial network for bloggers. Members place a widget on their blog and visit other blogs to click the drop box. Dropping leaves a calling card and earns credits to spend on advertising.
The benefits and disadvantages have been discussed elsewhere so I won't repeat them here. For this blog the benefit has been minimal, so I've removed Entrecard to make more space available for CMF Ads.
However I haven't deleted my account. I suspect certain Entrecard users are gaming the system by using a program to click the drop box without visiting blogs! Over the next couple of days I'll make a note of who's still leaving a calling card in my inbox and possibly cheating the system.
Update: After 7 days I've received 27 ghost drops despite removing the widget!

So far two people have managed to drop on my missing widget!
ReplyDeleteBefore EC went rogue and stole all my credits, I actually helped them by yanking my widget for a day and reporting anyone who still managed to drop on my site. They have always existed. It takes a real idiot to drop on active blogs. If I was going to script my dropping, I'd drop on the blogs that haven't updated in years. No chance of geting caught that way.
ReplyDeleteI guess it depends what the scripter is cheating the system for. The credits are almost worthless, but the return visits from active bloggers might just be worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteWell, you got me. I did click because you were in my inbox but I have to admit that I never read your blog. I simply locate the widget, drop and move on. After I refreshed my inbox to see which once I missed you were still there and I actually read your post.
ReplyDeleteThose who drop on 300 blogs don't actually stay and read the content, they drop for credits. I have about 20-30 blogs which I actually look forward to reading, the rest is a drop and out thing.
I am sure there are people who cheat the system, but since you still have your widget up, you will get some clicks regardless.
I think everyone is aware that most click for credits. The way to keep visitors is with good content which interest them, that has always been my opinion.
You may have closed your account, but bloggers have no way of knowing and if you are in their inbox you will get clicks unless someone bothers to read what you write.

ReplyDeleteHi Apollo,
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't receive any drop because the Entrecard widget is no longer on the blog. That's just a picture of a widget on the post. There is no drop button for people to click on.
Even though I haven't got a widget some members are still appearing in my inbox. How can they click if the drop button isn't there?
They're cheating the system either using a script or a dodgy website.
I'm 100% sure the people who are still appearing in my inbox are cheating the system. There's 7 so far!
if some one cheating is not me john :P
ReplyDeleteWhat I didn't even know you could do that. I don't want to but how do you tell the difference.
ReplyDeletedropping here again john :D
ReplyDeleteI clicked the drop button before I even read your post. I guess because I'm so conditioned to click the drop button. It took me to the English Wilderness blog.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever been to your site before. I just happened to find you in CMFAds and clicked your ad.
