Entrecard recently announced a new Blackjack game using the EntreCredits API. Players can gamble their credits, winning or losing on the turn of a card.
Not only is this a strange addition to a blog advertising network, it's also gambling. Credits can be purchased for cash and gambled freely. The network doesn't allow gambling ads so why promoting this? I noticed no age restriction or daily limits. Advertising networks should concentrate on what they do best - advertising blogs.
Individual bets are limited to 500ec (about $1.50). Unfortunately the game has a serious flaw making it easy to amass 50000 credits an hour. It would be irresponsible to publish a full description before the developers have fixed the problem, but it does highlight the importance of testing web apps before general release.

Really, I only display their widget on my blog but nothing to do much on entrecard. Is this a sign that entrecard is dying?
ReplyDeleteI don't think Entrecard is dying. In fact it's looks healthier than it has for a while.
ReplyDeleteThere'll always be new bloggers who think the route to success is click on 300 yellow boxes a day!
I tried to go there to check it out and see if I could win some credits. I wouldn't care about cashing them for cash but they would come in handy for advertising. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work. It just got stuck and wouldn't do anything.
ReplyDeleteWhy should they care about serious flaws when they can just create more credits? Imagine if real casinos could just print money if someone wins. Dropping 1000 cards would take me about an hour. What is an hour of work worth to you? If I can't sell 1k credits for something approaching my hourly price, I'd do better working that hour. It seems the going rate on the free market is $1 for 2k credits and dropping fast.
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing when I noticed that you could play blackjack. I don't think they should allow people to buy credits for gambling.
ReplyDeleteHey there,
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that a lot of members have exploited this flaw and have amassed credits. This is probably why they are capping credits at 100,000 now.
I reported the problem to Entrecard and eventually they fixed it! :-)
ReplyDeleteI saw this on the dashboard but never clicked on it. Thanks for the thumbs up or thumbs down maybe! Your right not sure what its got to do with an advertising network!
